A facilitator is a trusted and respected guide for your student.
Learning is ultimately an act of seeking and discovering, not the act of listening and regurgitating. This is why transitioning to homeschooling can be so difficult for a guardian and a student. This new learning environment is truly different than the one your student has experienced in traditional schooling. Your student will only need to experience a "seek and discover model of education" a few times before he/she can readily transfer these new learning skills to any endeavor, making him/her a more efficient thinker and learner.
In order to be able to learn effectively, a student needs a clear agenda, likely one of the more frightening aspects of picturing yourselves as teachers. As your homeschooling learning facilitator, I will aide your student with the development of this plan and guide him/her towards his/her best intellectual growth. My goal is to keep your child moving forward on her own path. By asking questions, removing roadblocks to his/her learning, and allowing your student to discover the power of facilitating his/her own learning, we will develop a plan for how your student will continue to grow as a lifelong learner.
As facilitator instead of teacher, I can give your child a welcome respite from school’s daily comparisons and negative labels. In addition, I can relieve the pressure that accompanies negative labels. We will constantly and consistently strive to be better than we were the day before, and we will learn that we are not measured by comparisons to others. When we say, “Always do your best,” it will really mean something. I can help your student rediscover the intrinsic joy in learning and education.
Aiding your student in the learning process means just that. It doesn’t mean doing it for him/her. A true education is achieved through experience, and your student will understand what it means to control his/her own learning. As a homeschooling facilitator, I will help to create an autonomous, self-directed learner who knows how to find the information he/she needs instead of waiting for someone to give it to him/her. As a result, he/she will be better equipped for academic study, as well as adulthood.
And let's not forget the paperwork. As your facilitator, I will help you track the credits your student needs in order to reach his/her goals. I will help with the development of transcripts, course certificates, and diplomas as needed. I can also help your student plan out their course requirements and document his/her successful completion of these desired courses of study on a daily, weekly, monthly, or semester long basis.
