Have you checked in lately?

How long has it been since you have checked in with your kiddos (or yourself) during these trying times?  Perhaps today is the day.  Consider using the PIE wellness check (or some variation of it) to easily begin a discussion with your kiddos about how everyone is holding up under these unusual circumstances. 

My family has learned to use a simple PIE technique.  One day I am actually going to make a pie for us to enjoy during a check-in, but first I will need to find butter.  Until then, we will simply check in during our nightly quarantined dinner.  

My family touches on three parts of the wheel.  One person starts us out with his/her PIE (then anyone can ask questions) and then the same individual will pass to another family member that hasn't checked-in yet.  

The three parts of our family wheel include...

Physically, I feel ... (share something about the way your body feels)

Intellectually, I am wondering about ... (share an interesting topic or question that is weighing on your mind). 

Emotionally, I am ... (share how you feel emotionally but be sure to avoid pizza words like good or okay). 

It is definitely awkward your first ten times, especially if you aren't used to sharing or holding family meetings, but IT DOES GET EASIER.  You will be amazed by what you learn about your kiddos during this simple, ten-minute, round robin.
